Artist's Description
While in Venice, we took a boat ride to the island of Burano. Burano is known for lacemaking. There are less than 40 lacemakers left, the youngest being in her 60's. I bought a piece of lace made by the youngest lacemaker while there. It is framed and hangs on my office wall. I look at this treasure every day. Lacemaking is a dying art. As an artist myself, I hope that people of Burano can somehow encourage the next generation to create this beautiful art.

My focus has always been on the natural world and its beauty whether it be a dragonfly, flower, frog, or tree bark. When viewing our world, I look at how people and architectural structures fit into it now and in the past. Do they coexist with their natural surroundings or look out of place?
